I came to a realization today. I really dislike the term taken in regards to a person being in a relationship. I really think there are better ways to say it.
My problems with this term is it implies that your unavailability is not your own choice, but someone else’s control. I also feel that it seems like I am an object that someone has “taken”.
I mean, I completely understand that people don’t mean any offense when they say it. But it does bother me that it’s such an acceptable term in society.
Our next door neighbors are this wonderful couple. They lived together for about 2 years and got married about 3 years ago, so they’ve been here for around 5 years. They have this super cute dog and they are just really nice and wonderful people. They are probably in their late 20s. Anyway, today, I found out that they are adopting 2 little kids and they’re coming home today! The kids are 7 and 8 and it just made my day how excited they were about it! You don’t hear too much about young couples adopting, especially somewhat older kids. It just really made my day to see how compassionate and caring these two are.
I’m not even a fan of kids but I’m excited to meet these little ones!
